Aside

I sometimes browse Fiverr to search for design and SEO services. It has now degraded into some sort of disturbing meat market, with countless users selling themselves as advertising space. This listing by dawnoctopus is probably the most troubling listing by far. Here is the description for the listing.

Kayden is 3 years old and he loves helping me with Fiverr gigs! If you order this gig, we will either print out or draw a handmade sign featuring your business, website, or any personal message that you’d like; and we’ll send you a photo of Kayden holding up the sign which you can use to promote your business. If you have specific outfit requirements or instructions, let us know! G-rated and non-mean sign contents only, please! Thank you. :)

First of all, does Kayden really have any clue what he’s getting himself into? He’s only three. Second of all, should any responsible parent be doing things like this? It seems like dawnoctopus is basically pimping out her adopted kid for cash. There seems to be something terribly wrong here.

Buckle Up

On June 27, 2011 I mentioned my pessimistic outlook for the future. In the short term, I was concerned about how the debt ceiling debate was to end. About a week ago before that, China’s Dagong Global Credit Rating Co. had downgraded the U.S. credit rating. This was generally met with skepticism, but this would not have occurred without some cause. Now that S&P has followed suit, reality has set in. Gold prices shot up by about $100 an ounce as a result.

But that is all short term. In the long term, I am even more pessimistic. I am expecting an economic collapse even worse than that of the late 2000s. I believe it would be wise to convert cash and other paper assets into tangible assets such as silver and gold.

Aside

A sure way to tell when the economy is going downhill is to gauge the quality of prepared foods at the grocery store. I had purchased Ragu sauces in the past, but I got the impression that this time the sauces were dramatically watered down. The Chunky Mushroom was more like a river than a lava flow.
