Wealth is increasingly being concentrated in the hands of the few. When stepping back and looking at it all, it is as if I am living in some horrifying slave plantation, but it is not immediately obvious because everything is just colorful enough to keep me distracted. After all, slaves surely would not have air conditioning and delicious food? I remember walking into the floor of an office building. There in front of me was an endless sea of cubicles. The walls were just high and grey enough to create the perception of jail cells, yet low enough so that if the manager walked out of his office, he would be able to stare out over the sea of workers. I spoke to someone there, who wryly introduced me to her “cellmate”. Essentially, when you are an employee, you have zero control. People with no control are basically slaves. Today we use the euphemism “employee”. Just another reason to acquire the means for self sufficiency.

The model of society is based on competition. Would it be possible to create a new model of society based on common goals? Or does human nature make this impossible. I would surely like to try something different.

I sometimes browse Fiverr to search for design and SEO services. It has now degraded into some sort of disturbing meat market, with countless users selling themselves as advertising space. This listing by dawnoctopus is probably the most troubling listing by far. Here is the description for the listing.

Kayden is 3 years old and he loves helping me with Fiverr gigs! If you order this gig, we will either print out or draw a handmade sign featuring your business, website, or any personal message that you’d like; and we’ll send you a photo of Kayden holding up the sign which you can use to promote your business. If you have specific outfit requirements or instructions, let us know! G-rated and non-mean sign contents only, please! Thank you.

First of all, does Kayden really have any clue what he’s getting himself into? He’s only three. Second of all, should any responsible parent be doing things like this? It seems like dawnoctopus is basically pimping out her adopted kid for cash. There seems to be something terribly wrong here.

On June 27, 2011 I mentioned my pessimistic outlook for the future. In the short term, I was concerned about how the debt ceiling debate was to end. About a week ago before that, China’s Dagong Global Credit Rating Co. had downgraded the U.S. credit rating. This was generally met with skepticism, but this would not have occurred without some cause. Now that S&P has followed suit, reality has set in. Gold prices shot up by about $100 an ounce as a result.

But that is all short term. In the long term, I am even more pessimistic. I am expecting an economic collapse even worse than that of the late 2000s. I believe it would be wise to convert cash and other paper assets into tangible assets such as silver and gold.

I had purchased Ragu sauces in the past, but I got the impression that this time the sauces were dramatically watered down. The Chunky Mushroom was more like a river than a lava flow.

I searched “awacs cancer”, and the first few results suggest that this may be the case. Working so close to such powerful electromagnetic emissions for such extended periods of time, it stands to reason that there would be a higher risk.

I thought this was noteworthy because it’s an interesting contrast. The Mansard roof has a more solid and imposing feel while the East Asian roof has a fluid and airy feel.

Almost a year later and things are still rolling along. The sun is still rising and setting, human sacrifice not required. In the meantime I’ve accomplished little, although I’ve learned about some new topics.

Flavorists, food science, food rheology, esotericism, psychology, mysticism, religions, natural health, meditation, propaganda, the 1990s, futurism, sustainability and a few other things. All fascinating. An advantage to expanding knowledge horizontally is a more complete perspective on how everything fits together. The lack of in depth knowledge is a problem though.

The world is changing rapidly, and I feel it will be a dramatically different place in five years; not for the better. The multiple rounds of quantitative easing. The erosion of privacy and freedoms under the pretense of security. Persistent unemployment. These, and other trends are concerning and seem to be signs of general decline. It seems that planning for a certain, rainy outlook would be a good idea.
